Cleaning Hacks for Your Home That Will Make Your Life Easier
Clean the oven with a sconce
Once the appropriate amount of time has passed, take a damp cloth rag, open the oven and wipe down all surfaces. If there are extra sticky spots, use a wet scouring pumice, microfiber sponge or other abrasive tool to remove all grime. Be sure to really hit every crack and crevice so that you aren’t leaving any traces of dirt or cleaner behind.
Begin by taking out all your oven racks to get them out of the way. Using a paper towel or old cloth, remove all those pesky little bits of burnt food from the base of your oven, wiping the bits straight into a dustpan pan or bin if possible. The more you remove now, the less you’ll have to get rid of later.
Clean the toilet with a plunger
Look for a bucket or wastebasket, empty it, and fill it with hot water from the tub or sink. Pour the water into the toilet bowl, wait a minute or two, then try either plunging the toilet or flushing the toilet again. (Turn the water back on if necessary, and keep your hand close to the flapper in case the attempt is unsuccessful!)
As a last-ditch effort, grab your toilet brush and push the brush into the drain hole, pushing and pulling it vigorously. You could try covering it with a trash bag to keep the toilet brush semi-clean. Since this could get pretty gross, you might want to dress accordingly or wear gloves.
Clean the shower with a cloth
Once your shower reaches the desired level of cleanliness, run a warm (but not super hot) shower to build up some steam and wash away any oily residue in the shower. Use a handheld shower head or spray bottle filled with clean warm water to rinse the shower walls.
Rinse the shower tiles and grout with hot water to remove any remaining loose grime, soap, or cleaning agent. Use a microfiber towel and dry off the shower door and tiles. This removes any excess moisture and slows the return of mold and mildew. Run the bathroom fan for a few minutes once you’re finished to remove any remaining humidity.
