Resolution:
Initial issues with AppFabric in my SharePoint 2013 environment caused me to decide to create an AppFabric server to fix the problem. It seemed reasonable at the time. It kept appearing, no matter how many times I rebooted or attempted to install AppFabric, and it never went away. To find the cause, I began to dig into MSI log files.
Additional Issues
Other things to look at are:
- Windows Firewall settings. AppFabric uses default ports 22233 and higher for communication.
- Remote Service Management service. To configure integration between SharePoint and AppFabric, you will need to access the remote registry. This service must be initiated on the AppFabric Serve
Failure to decompress an archive usually means that the archive is corrupt. In this instance, I had downloaded the offline installers from DownThemAll. The online installer gave me the error .
- Copy the package to an unencrypted folder.
This is the correct way to proceed if you get an error message when you attempt to install Windows Installer to an encrypted folder. - Save the package to a drive you are not using as a replacement drive.
This method is used if you get an error message that the drive containing the folder you are trying to install Windows Installer packages to is not accessible. - Allow full control permissions for the SYSTEM account. Only for Windows 2000/Windows XP
This method is used if the error message that the SYSTEM account doesn’t have full control permissions to the folder you are trying to install the Windows Installer package, appears.
These steps will allow you to grant Full Control permissions for the SYSTEM account:
- Double-click My Computer on the Windows desktop. The My Computer window opens.
- Right-click on the drive you wish to install Windows Installer. Click Properties.
- Click on the Security tab.

- Verify that the Name box contains your SYSTEM user account if you’re using Microsoft Windows 2000.
- Verify that Microsoft Windows XP’s Group and user names boxes contain the SYSTEM user account.The Security Tab, do the following:
- Click Add. The Select Users and Groups dialog box opens.
- Click OK.
- Click on the Permissions Section to choose the Full control box under Allow.

- Windows XP users can click the Replace permissions on all child objects with the entries shown here.
- Enable propagation of inheritable rights.
