Step 1 – Operating QuickBooks in Single User Mode

  1. Login to QuickBooks and go to the File menu. Select File.
  2. From the drop-down, search for the Switch to single-user mode and select it.
  3. Check if the error is resolved.

Step 2 – Verifying the File Location

Check if the mapped file location is correct.

  1. Open the Product Information window and find the mapped location path. For instance: [x]:\[folder name]\[data file name] and write it down.
  2. Select Help and click on Update QuickBooks.
  3. Verify the info in the Download Location of the Options tab.
  4. If the download is Active and set to Yes, the drive in the Download Location and Product Information window will be the same. And if it is set to No, the directory in Download Location and QuickBooks Installation Directory will be the same.
  5. If the location is wrong –
    Select Yes for shared download, if No is already selected.
    Select No for shared download, if Yes is already selected.
  6. Close and download the tax table.

Step 3 – Remapping the Drive

Remap the drive to a new letter if the download location is accurate.

  1. Close the company file and reroute the network drive to a new letter.
  2. Open your company file using the new drive letter.
  3. Choose Help and select Update QuickBooks.
  4. In the Options tab, Turn off the Shared Download and turn it on again.
  5. Click on Save and then Close.

Step 4 – Running QuickBooks Desktop as an Admin

If you have issues in Windows Vista, try running the QuickBooks Desktop as an admin.

  1. Select Run as an Administrator by right-clicking the QB icon.
  2. The User Account Control will prompt you to run the application, press Continue.
  3. Update QuickBooks and see if the error is resolved.
